BEER HAIKU #51 8 Wired Ice Distilled Bumaye

As part of an 8 Wired tap takeover at Hashigo Zake Cult Beer Bar, the Thirsties were delighted to try a beefed up version of the brewery’s signature barley wine. Although a relative middleweight compared to the legendary Tactical Nuclear Penguin (which tips the scales at a mind boggling 69% ABV), it offered a fine opportunity to tune up for Beervana in a couple of days.

8 Wired Ice Distilled Bumaye (22% ABV)

Hints of vanilla

Sweet caramel on ice cream

Dainty but daring

Food match: Spanish style salted peanuts (skins on), goat’s cheese cheesecake, sweet breads, battered Bluff oysters.

It’s the kind of beer you drink: when you realise you’re working for Fonterra’s marketing department, if you’re Serge Gainsbourg and there’s no more champagne.
